Annapurna Base Camp Trek
Dec 30, 2020
Annapurna Base Camp Trek offers the opportunity to go on an adventure to 4,130m at the base camp of the tenth highest peak in the world. This is a captivating trek that is attempted by thousands of trekkers every year in hopes of witnessing numerous stunning peaks and an immensely blessed natural landscape.
As they go-to place for adventure sports, treks, tours, and anything holiday-related in Nepal, the Annapurna region attracts a huge number of tourists every year. And a big reason for that is because it offers so much, from magnificent views and amazing wildlife to fascinating local culture and rich history. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek encompasses all of these qualities in just the right amount offering a truly surreal experience despite being a fairly short and easy trek.
As you may have guessed, those starting the trek from Kathmandu will first have to reach Pokhara via a 5-6 hour drive or a scenic half-hour flight. To start the actual trek, a further short drive is necessary to the trailhead at Nayapul. From thereon, the trail eventually diverges two ways, either to the longer route via Ghorepani (Poon Hill) or to the direct approach towards Chhomrong.
By default, our Annapurna Base Camp Trek itinerary will follow the former route and lead via Ulleri to Ghorepani. The next morning, a pre-dawn hike up to Poon Hill ridge offers one of the main highlights of the trek in terms of scenery. With favorable weather, you will get to witness breathtaking panoramic views of peaks across the region including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhare, and of course, Annapurna.
From there on, the trail turns towards our main destination as we pass through Tadapani, Chhomrong, Dovan, and Deurali to reach the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) with just a few days of trekking. On our way, we will pass through oak, pine, bamboo, and rhododendron forests and witness the alpine vegetation thin out and gradually give way to the stunning Himalayan scenery as we cross the 4,000-meter mark at Machhapuchhare Base Camp (MBC).
Thanks to the availability of lodges right beside the glacier, we will have plenty of time to explore the Annapurna Base Camp and enjoy the stunning scenery nearby. The sunrise and sunset views are considered to be particularly beautiful here.
